What is Water Repellent Agent and its Advantages?

How Water Repellent Agents Work in Mortar?

Mortar is porous, containing tiny capillaries that act like pathways of water, which are drawn in by capillary suction. After a period of time has passed, it will eventually act as a reservoir that will promote damp walls, efflorescence, and further damage to the strength.

When a Water Repellent Agent is introduced to the mortar, then:

It will shrink the size and connection of capillaries.

It coats the internal structure with water-repelling molecules.

It stops liquid water but allows the diffusion of water vapour (breathability).

So as to stop liquid water but still be able to diffuse water vapour, the walls will remain dry, sound, and will not be exposed to moisture damage.
